Energy Demand and Supply

Biomass for London: wood fuel demand and supply chains (2008) (PDF, 2.76 MB)

This report assesses the number and capacity of planned wood fuel plant in London and their potential fuel demand. It then examines the potential sources of fuel and makes recommendations for enabling the growth in fuel production from London's own resources.

London Wind & Biomass Study (2007)
The London Wind and Biomass Study considers how London can reduce its carbon emissions by using more wind energy and by using biomass in combined heat and power units (CHP), which fuel homes and businesses more efficiently than traditional power plants. The study is divided into two separate Wind Reports, Guidelines on Developing Wind Energy, and the Biomass Report.

One of the objectives in the action plan relates to the London Community Heating Development Study, published May 2005. This detailed study of the potential for community heating in London was commissioned by the GLA, with the support of the LDA and four London boroughs and funding from the EST. Community heating is a key component of the Mayor's Energy Strategy, as it offers a means of reducing carbon dioxide emission and helping to deliver affordable warmth.
